Dear EPS Families,

This email is to make you aware that the district has revised the Return to School guidelines released Monday, July 5, to provide you with significantly greater detail about our learning options, enhanced safety protocols, and new procedures at both elementary and secondary schools.

It’s important to note that the guidelines found here and posted to our website are a draft and plans in the guidelines are subject to change. The school board will review and vote on the guidelines at an upcoming special meeting. We will communicate more about the school board meeting when the date and time are finalized.

Additionally, I am pleased to share with you that we have extended the enrollment window for Virtual Edmond to July 30 to give families more time to study this learning option before making a decision. Virtual Edmond offers a self-paced education for K-12 students. Each student will be assigned an Edmond Public School teacher who will be available to support the student and family and will monitor progress and assist in learning as well as grade assignments. For specific questions and issues with assignments, students will have access to a highly qualified, EPS content (math, English, social studies, science, foreign language, etc.) specialist. You’ll find more details about Virtual Edmond on our website.

As we prepare for the upcoming school year, we are mindful that the numbers of those infected with the virus continue to rise in our state. As this situation evolves, we will continue to take a measured and flexible approach to ensure that we can adapt to new scenarios as they arise.

We don’t know what the next day, let alone what the new year will bring, but I am confident that working together, we can meet our students’ learning and life needs in an exemplary manner.

Until my next communication, please take care of yourself and each other.

Bret Towne
